What to expect from Milestone Vets during Phase 2 of the Covid-19 Lockdown

Government and professional advice is to continue to offer remote care where possible and in person care for urgent and emergency cases while social distancing within the covid-19 secure guidelines.  To meet these requirements we are currently operating in the following way.

  • We are working in two smaller teams on different days.  Please be patient as there are fewer people in the practice to do the work.
  • Our opening hours have changed – we are now open 8.30-5.30 seven days a week
  • We are reducing contact between staff and clients as much as possible.  Our clinical teams are still meeting with multiple members of the public every day and handling their animals.  Although we are taking precautions, we are a high risk group and need to protect our clients from contact with us as much as possible.
  • No clients are currently entering the building apart from a very few exceptional circumstances.

Sick or Inured animals

  • If you are concerned about your pet’s health, please call the practice to arrange a telephone appointment with the vet in the first instance.
  • We are taking payment for these consultations in advance.
  • The vet will phone you at the prearranged time to discuss your concerns (sometimes this maybe slightly later than planned due to unexpected emergencies at the practice). Photos can be e mailed to staff@milestonevets.com to help with diagnosis.  Medications may be prescribed following the telephone consultation.
  • Should medication be necessary you will be contacted again to pay for these and arrange collection or delivery.
  • Medications required urgently can be collected.  Please call the practice on arrival and they will brought outside the practice and placed on a table for you.
  • Medications not required urgently will be posted and there will be a postage charge for this.  This is necessary to reduce the number of clients gathering together outside our doors.
  • Some patients will be asked to come into the practice for a physical examination.  There is no further charge for this initial examination.
  • On arrival with your pet please call the practice and a vet or nurse will come out to collect and return your pet.
  • Any further payment will be made by telephone.

Vaccinations

  • Puppy and kitten 1st vaccinations and rabbit vaccinations are currently taking place and will be booked physical appointments by the receptionists.  Please be patient as we are trying to spread these appointments out to reduce the number of clients at our doors.
  • Please phone the practice on arrival and a vet or a nurse will come out to collect your pet from you.
  • Payment is by phone at the time of the vaccination.
  • We are continuously reviewing our current suspension of booster vaccinations.  Should we restart these we will contact those overdue via our reminder system.
  • If your pet will need to restart their vaccinations we will be able to offer this for the same price as a booster

Repeat Prescription and Parasite Prevention

  • Please follow the link on our website: http://milestonevets.com/prescriptions.php, e mail staff@milestonevets.com or phone the practice to request repeat prescriptions including parasite prevention.  Emails and website orders are best as our receptionists are very busy with incoming phone calls.  Most medications will be posted out for a charge.  This is to reduce non essential travel and the number of clients gathering by our small entrance.  Once your medication has been dispensed we will call you for payment and post this out to you.  Please allow a week for requests as there may be delays with our suppliers and with the post system.

Neutering

  • We are now carrying out a small number of neutering operations if the vet considers these to be urgent.
  • Please call for a free telephone consultation with a vet if you feel that neutering would significantly improve your pet’s welfare at this time.

Nail Clipping and Anal Gland expression

  • If your pet is becoming uncomfortable due to long nails or anal glands our receptionists will  book you a physical appointment with a nurse for nail clipping or anal gland expression.
  • Please call to arrange this.
  • Please note that we are not carrying out these appointments until they become urgent.
  • As before please telephone the practice on arrival and the nurse will come out to collect your pet and the treatment will be in the practice.
  • Payment is by telephone in advance (for convenience) or at the time.
